Saying Goodbye... summer, to lazy afternoons at the pool, to long days with my son by my side. My eldest goes to kindergarten today, and it's put his mommy in a pretty melancholy mood. They grow up so fast.

A requiem for summer, in photos.

Setting out on a hike in a national park near our home.

My son, admiring a baby blue bird that decided to perch on our outdoor furniture.

Blowing bubbles. No, he's not drowning, he's my water baby. This is his pool pose.

I love this photo so, so much. I took it on Saturday, on a walking trail near our home.

It's times like these that I have to remind myself of every cliche in the book. When one door closes, another opens... When one chapter ends, another begins... Life goes on. Yes it does. It's just that sometimes it goes a little too quickly.

  1. What beatiful photos of your boys! I'm sure they are sparking some bittersweet emotions today. My daughter began kindergarten this time last year. I barely took three steps with her into her classroom before she said, "Okay Mom, see ya later. I've got it from here," and ushered me out the door. My mid-morning coffee was a bit bitter after a couple of good cries. Seems like my little girl is always a step ahead of me when it comes to being prepared for each new journey.

I hope this school year brings you the opportunity to delve into the excitement of new beginnings with your son. May the two of you together enjoy field trips, new friends, fresh independence and the thrill of learning. I hope that today you find the quiet comfort of memories.

Many blessings to you and your family!

  2. Hi, Nicole! It's nice to meet you! I really like your blog!

Your pictures are awesome; such a perfect description of summer. I hope your son has a great day today--and that he can't wait to tell his mommy all about it!

  3. I agree there is something truly beautiful captured in that last photo. Hope to pep you up--linked to you in my post today! :D

Blessings and rich faith & grace,
    ~ Wendy

  4. Thanks for the well wishes. I dropped my baby off today and promptly went home to cry my eyes out. He was fine, I was not. Boo-hoo. But I'm doing better already...

Sherry, my coffee was definitely bitter this morning.

I'm glad you stopped by Kristen! The photos I posted are not necessarily my favorite, but I'm a stinker about showing my kids online. I probably don't have to be so protective, but I think my kids are cute enough to steal--I'm afraid someone else might agree.

Blessings right back at you, Wendy! Thanks for the link-up.

  5. Oh, Nicole - I can imagine how you are feeling. I still can't believe that in less than two months, my boy will be one already! It feels like yesterday when I was feeling him roll around inside my belly. I don't even want to think about kindergarten. It happens so fast. So darn fast. I hope his first year of school is a fabulous one. I hope he loves his teacher and has a great year! I love those pictures - your're right about that last one!

  6. meloncholy is more savory than sweet...thanks for putting words to the thoughts of all us mommies' hearts today. I, too, sent my son to kindergarden today. When I asked him how it was he said, "well, mom, it was kinda freaky"...but he loved lunch and recess so I think he's gonna do ok. bless you, Nicole!

  7. Katie, I know you've heard this a million times, but: enjoy these years! They go so fast.

Nikolyn, I love your son's take on the first day! Too funny. Believe it or not, my son's favorite part of the day was nap time!
